Could Weakness In Legs Be A Result Of Diabetes Type 2?
I have lost strength in my legs, so if I was to kneel down I have trouble then standing up, and have suddenly started to have swelling of my feet, so by the end of each day they are like balloons. I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have started tablets, could this be the cause
Hello and welcome to health care magic. The weakness and numb feeling in your legs are due to peripheral neuropathy which is as a result of Diabetes type 2. It occurs when you have high blood sugar due to diabetes, but is not diagnosed and not taking an medications for a long time. The swelling in your legs is also caused by diabetes due to its detrimental action on your kidneys. It's called diabetic nephropathy. So my advice is to visit a nephrologist and he will do a Renal function test and urine test to understand the current status of your kidneys. It's important as when this is left untreated, it can cause permanent damage to kidneys and you will need dialysis. The doctor will also give Vitamin tablets to help with the weakness in legs. Hope this discussion will be helpful to you. Thank you.
