Could Yellowish Phlegm Be Related To Sinus Infection?
I have a problem with yellowish phlegm, but I do not have any cold symptoms. This condition seems to come and go, but I have had it now for several weeks. The phlegm does not seem to come from the lungs, but from my head. Could this be a sinis infection? If so, what can I do to clear it up?

Hello, Welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query. Yellow phlegm indicates infection or allergy of upper respiratory tract. It can be associated with other conditions like deviated nasal septum, nasal polyp or rhinitis. You have told that the secretion is coming from head. In absence of fever, it is more suggestive of chronic recurrent allergic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis is treated with decongestants (nasal spey or oral) and anti-allergic(like levo-cetrizine) medicines. Anti-biotics may be needed if there is infection. You can do steam inhalation at home to relived the symptoms of congestion. If your symptoms are not relieved than it is advisable to consult ENT surgeon. He will examine the nose and order some investigations like X-ray & CT head and endoscopy of nose to rule out deviated nasal septum, polyps, etc. Hope this will be helpful. Do ask if any further question is there. Take care.
