Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello and thank you for your time! My son is 31 years old and has been recently diagnosed with Crohns after 2 colonoscopies. He is physically active with exercise and sports.. Recently his lipase level came back extremely high, around 600. His Gastro Dr. followed with a colonoscopy and a CAT scan. Nothing unexpected was found and his liver, pancreas and gall bladder appeared normal. His next blood test showed lipase level still above 500. He is having an upper endoscopy in 2 days. He is worried and fears the worst ( pancreatic cancer ). Why would his lipase levels be so high in your opinion? Are there specific questions he should ask of his Dr.? Or specific tests you would suggest?
HI
Does he have abdominal pain
lipase usually rises with pancreatic inflammation not with cancer
so don t think u shd worry
also lipase 3 times normal limit is imp 600 may not be relevant in that case
if CT is normal then no worry
also sme drugs used n treatment of crohns may cause pancreatitis
esp azatioprine
just check his drug history and also dont worry
