Daily Bouts Of Diarrhea While The Cause Is Not Clear
My twenty year old son started having daily bouts of diarrhea 8 months ago. At first we thought it was stress from his new job which was very stressful at first but the situation seemed to resolve itself. Well the diarrhea continued and seemed to be getting worse about 2 months ago. The Gastro doctor did Colonoscopy on Feb 11 found some inflammation but said he might be lactose intolerance all labs came back normal except low B12 which he is taking monthly. 2 weeks ago Mon he started belching really foul odor then vomiting severely it smelled like stool for a couple of hours he became dehydrated they gave fluids sent him home. Tues ok but Wed doing same thing so they did endoscope, x-ray and CT all are normal gave fluids sent home. Sat had to take to ER severely vomiting along with diarrhea gave fluids did some labs, platelets were a little low sent home. He hasn't vomited since but still has the loose stools. His Dr. doesn't seemed to concerned he doesn't give us any feedback on what this could be or what we need to do next. Now my son told me his stool is somewhat forming but it is a pale tan color. They said they've have ruled out anything serious and lactose intolerance but said to lay off dairy for awhile. Any advise to give me?

Daily Bouts Of Diarrhea While The Cause Is Not Clear
Hi there. Thanks for writing in. It is reassuring to know that all the tests and results were ok. This might also be due to Irritable bowel syndrome. It is a possibility. Maintain a food diary and try to see which food triggers loose stools etc. Regular exercise 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Sign him up for yoga or relaxation classes which will help him relax, reduce the stress and anxiety. Regards, Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
