Smoking can cause dark or brown pigmentation/dark spots on lips.
These dark spots may be due to the
nicotine staining,tiny painless burns,decreased oxygenation in the underlying tissue.
Degree of pigmentation/dark spots depends upon :
-duration of smoking,
-number of cigarettes smoked per day,
-type of your skin and mucosa.
Pigmentation of lips can vary from person to person even with the same duration of smoking.
If you quit smoking, there are chances of decrease in dark spots over a period of few months and over time the skin will begin to lighten but whether it will return to previous color is not sure.
Application of lightening creams and medicines are available that may help you for speedy and better recovery.
