Daughter Has Pancreas Inflammation. Have Drinking Habits. Results Showing Very High Range Of Inflammation. Suggestions?
My daughter is in the hopital with pancreas inflamation. I don't know what the name of the test is - I believe it has to do with inflamation. Her results were 2000 and she was told it should be between 90 and 300. If she is that far out of the range are we looking at real damage? This is her 4th round with this. She has had a drinking poblem in the past and that's when this all started. She says she is no longer drinking - I find that hard to believe since these bouts seem to be getting worse. Are these numbers really bad and can she turn it around if she stops drinking?
The test that you have mentioned is most probably the serum amylase level. Such highly elevated levels are seen in acute inflammation of the pancreas, which is probably what your daughter is suffering from. Please do not worry about the level being so high as it will reduce in a few days when inflammation subsides.
Alcohol is one of the commonest causes of this disorder, and therefore it is possible that your daughter has not quit drinking. Please reassure your daughter that she can live a healthy life once she gives up alcohol and that it is not impossible to quit drinking.
Best wishes!
