Dear Dr.
My nephew is 5 months now..
Today was a devastating day for us, after we visited ophthalmologist. He said that he sees gray optical nerves in one eye and the macula in undedeveloped in the other.
We have scheduled MrI in 2 days but we do not know what are we going to face here..
He was born at 38 weeks 2.5kgs and 46 height 32cm head circumference..
He is now 5 months 6.5kgs 62cm head circumference 38cm.
Drs said he is below curve and head appears under developed..
We reached for drs because he is not hitting his milestones.. He does not have eye contact, doesnt sit, doesnt laugh, doesnt babble only coo-ing- doesnt hold his head up
But he smiles and gets excited when we make musical sounds and follows colored screens and makes sounds to it..
I must state that the delivery was harsh , they used forceps and vaccum several times, his apgar was 4 and they released him next day and he developed jaundice on 3rd day and was admitted back to hospital on 3 rd day where he got photo treatment
We would do anything to reverse the damage. He is a lovely boy.. My sister is traumatized and in denial.. And we do not know what to expect from Mri.. But a Family friend "dr" told me its irreversible and most probably caused by harsh delivery or Jaundice (even before Mri)
We are heart broken..
Please tell me something can be done and there's a dr to treat him somewhere in this world
