Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am suffering from Sciatica for past 9 months. MRI was done almost 8 months ago.Findings of MRI are as under:-
MRI REPORT:-
1. Partial loss of normal hyperintense signal intensity areas on T2W sequences observed within LV 3-4 and LV 4-5 inter vertebral discs -- disc dessicatory changes.
2. Small Scmorl's node and Modic Type II changes observed along superior end-plate of LV 5.
3. Right postero-central protrusion of LV 4-5 inter vertebral disc encroaching on right lateral recess with possible compression of exiting nerve root.
4. Spinal canal is normal in size and appearance. No evidence of spinal stenosis observed.
SYPTOMS:-
1. Pain aggravated on prolonged sitting and standing and relieved on lying down. This pain is felt in lower back accompanied by stiffness and heaviness in right leg.
2. At times I am unable to bend forward as I feel pain in lower back as well as pain in upper buttocks portion.
3. I am unable to tie my own shoe laces or pick up anything from ground without feeling severe pain and discomfort.
PREVIOUS TREATMENTS DONE:-
1. Epiduroplasty using Dr Racz Gabor procedure with caudal approach. 2. Epidural steroid injections using transforminal approach at L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels under fluorescent.
However, no relief was felt beyond 7 days. I have been taking anti inflammatory drugs and pain killers but quit taking them 3 months ago.
Is surgery the only option left?
Regards Mr Bilal from Pakistan.
