Delayed Period With Lighter Flow And Pregnancy Symptoms, HPT Negative. Could I Be Pregnant?

I was 11 days late on my period this month and when it came it was light, lighter then normal and before I began bleeding I was experiencing pregnancy symptoms fatigue, always peeing , sore breast , minor cramps, food cravings etc , all of my HPT came out negative , I just recently learned my grandmother && aunt both bled during their pregnancy's the way I did , am I pregnant ? is that hereditary ? They didn't know they were pregnant until they got a blood test.

Hi and thanks for the query,

Cycle abnormalities, especially with bleeding warrant exclusion of a possibility of pregnancy in all women of reproductive age. Some women do experience mild implantation bleeding. I suggest you get a pregnancy test done to be sure. It would be preferable to to a serum Beta HCG testing which is more specific and sensitive. Persistence of bleeding could need an ultrasound which in this case shall tell us whether there is a possibility of an ectopic or extra uterine pregnancy or not which must not be neglected.

However, chances of a pregnancy under such circumstances are rare, but wirth excluding.

Thanks and best regards,

Bain LE, MD.
