Delayed Periods. Ultrasound Done, Shows Enlarged Ovaries, Small Cysts Around Stroma. Serious Condition?

Hi, i am a 26 year old lady i went for an ultrasound as my period got 10 days late this time. My period date does fluctuate at times... the ultrasound report says as below Endometrial echo is thickened, shiny & hyperechoic (16mm thickness) Ovaries are mildly enlarged measuring 7.3 ml on left & 11 ml on right side with multiple small antral cysts arranged around a central abundant stroma. I just need to know why this happens and what is the cure to it. It is something vry serious?

hello,

The ultrasound picture suggests that it is PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease). Its exact cause is not very well known in medical science ,most common causes are hormonal imbalances.
You also need to get your thyroid hormone checked as it may also be an adding factor to the condition of your ovaries.
it is serious because it effects one's fertility and the body also becomes resistant to insulin(which means your blood sugar rises despite of enough insulin)
But to decrease your anxiety I would like tell you that it is very common and easily treatable.
I would like to suggest you to keep a check on your body wt(BMI){I dont know how much you weigh, but mostly females who are obese suffer from this}

If you have any more queries feel free to ask,
Regards.
