Depression, Anxiety Attacks, Having PTSD, Fibromyalsia. Treatment?
I am suffering from depression and what I think may be anxiety attacks and am looking for a good psychiatrist in my area. I have fibromyalsia and have recently gone through a near death experience due to a rare medical problem and seem to be having a little PTSD from it. Ive never had any counseling before and no one seems to understand what I am going through.
Many times stressful events like medical illnesses or family troubles can precipitate an episode of depression and anxiety. Fibromyalgia also belongs to the same spectrum of diseases. I agree with your decision to see to a psychiatrist as it is indeed difficult for others to understand what is going on. Medications of the SSRI and SNRI classes (escitalopram, sertraline, venlafaxine etc) will benefit depression, anxiety, PTSD as well as fibromyalgia. You can discuss this with your psychiatrist and choose the best one for you. However, till you get to see a psychiatrist, you can try to reduce your stress levels by doing meditation or relaxation exercises like deep breathing or muscular relaxation. These will also control the anxiety symptoms.
Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
