Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
age 40, height 5 foot 5, weight 125 lb, medical history: depression anxiety PTSD pneumonia; recent anxiety attacks after traumatic flight; unable to travel due to anxiety attacks; need meds but can only get to a family doctor. In UK; can they prescribe anxiety meds?
You have complaints of anxiety, depression, PTSD and severe anxiety following a traumatic flight. You have stopped to travel due to anxiety. This is called as avoidance due to anticipatory anxiety. I would advise you to consult a Psychiatrist for proper evaluation, though family physician can prescribe drugs that can decrease the symptoms.
Medicines like Fluoxetine, Duloxetine, Escitalopram etc are commonly used in anxiety treatment. For symptomatic relief medicines like Propranolol, clonazepam, alprazolam etc are used.
Non medicinal treatment in form of Behavior therapy and systematic desensitisation especially in your case will prove useful. You can take help from a Psychologist for that.
Hope this helps you, thanks
