HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Delayed
menstruation can be due to a number of different causes.
Some of these are: (1) pregnancy- it would be necessary to rule this out first. This can be done via a home pregnancy test which are usually accurate
(2) emotional stress
(3) physical stress such as illness can result in a delay of the period
(4) elevated
prolactin levels- these are hormones secreted by a part of the brain. Increased levels can have an effect on menstruation
(5)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone can also impact on the menstrual cycle
(6) excess physical activity
(7)inadequate diet
(8)
polycystic ovarian syndrome which is a condition diagnosed when two of the following are present: a) cysts on the ovaries -seen on
ultrasound (b) delayed or
irregular periods (c ) signs or symptoms of increase in the normal levels of male hormones- hair on chest/face/ abdomen., acne
You should consider doing the pregnancy test first. If this is normal then you may want to wait another week to 10 days to see if your period comes, if it does not then you can visit your doctor for an evaluation.
I hope this helps
