Diabetic. On Metformin And Insulin. Suffering Lactic Acidosis. Stopped Metformin And Improving. Advise?
my wife was recently diagnosed (4/2013) as type II diabetic and put on metformin and insulin. No class teaching her the specifics such a diabetic needs to know or should look for. In any cased, from her own researches into the plethora of symptoms she was experiencing, she determined she was experiencing "lactic acidosis" from a reaction to the metformin and/or the metformin and her chronic pain medication (morphine). She quit taking the metformin and has since experienced a very slow improvement in her symptoms, but with relapses, ups/downs, forwards/backs, and is worried if permanent damage has been done by the metformin
Please Note: I am disabled from Toxic Mold Syndrome and all (and more) of my wife's s & s noted above. my only income (our only) is my disability - not enough to survive on let alone pay for frivolities (no matter how helpful) they may be. so if you charge me - do not expect payment. ergo I do not expect service

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Since your wife is recently diagnosed with type 2 DM, kindly put her sugar values like FBS, PPBS, HbA1c values along with other tests done so that we can discuss about her management more precisely. Metformin do have chance of lactic acidosis but very rare. Since your wife all symptoms suggest as lactic acidosis, kindly repport it to her treating doctor, ask her to take plenty of water, get done her serum electrolytes, liver function and kidney function tests and consult your doctor for examination and management. This may not be permanent damage. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
Good morning When was last time random blood sugar or fasting blood sugar done? What was level? What diet are you taking? I would advice you see endocrinologist for further tests and management ,self prescription of medication when your diabetic is dangerous because of most of diabetic drugs have fatal side effects if used in appropriately(wrong dosage and indication).
