Diabetic. Started Insulin. Test Level 213 Before Food, 190 At Bedtime. Should I Be Concern?

My moms is new to the diabetes world, she s was diagnosed on 12/19/2012, n started insulin on 12/25/2012... The testing levels has been, 213 before breakfast, 190 at bedtime...12/25/2012 144 before breakfast and 231 before bedtime. With the numbers above 130, should I be alarmed. She is looking normal, not having any symptoms that seem wiered. Thanks

hi
frankly speaking why you started insulin without trying oral medicines. if your mom is more than 40 or 50 oral medicines can work well because mostly they have insulin resistance rather than insulin deficiency . most of the obese people will have more sugar and also more insulin but that insulin is not utilised by the body due to insulin resistance. anyhow the target is fasting around 100 mg and post prandial around 140 but people on insulin esp 30/70 mixtard should titrate and get that value. but beware of low sugar ( hypo glycemia)
