Diabetic, Having Shingles. What Medication Will Help In Alleviating Shingles Pain? Allegra?
I friend has Diabetes (no longer insulin dependent, but takes Metforin and Gly-Buride). He is 52 years old and slightly over weight. He has shingles. What medication would be best to alleviate the Shingles pain, without being contraindicated with his diabetes meds or his diabetes itself? What about Lryica? Do you think this is a medical emergency?
Hello, There are plenty of medicines which can be used for pain associated with shingles. These include usual anti inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen but if shingles pain extends beyond 1 month it is labelled as post hermetic neuralgia and the there are various types of medicines to be used like Tricyclics anti depressants like AMITRYPTALINE Anti seizure medications like gabapentine and tegretol In 2012,US FDA has approved a medicine called gabapentin enacabril for the neuralgic pain Local CAPSACIN cream or LIDODERM patches can be used but after the blisters are gone. Talk to your doctor for the prescription and all these medications can be used by a diabetic LYRICA can definitely be used for this. It is not a medical emergency. Thanks
