Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, is shivering a normal reaction for patients suffering from Dengue fever? My father was diagnoses with Dengue a week ago and has been in a hospital since. He starts shivering suddenly and there is a rise in temperature. He eventually starts sweating and feels hot. Has no appetite and feels like vomiting every day. His platalate count was 60,000 a week ago. It has now gone up to over 1,00,000. But the shivering and extreme weakness continues. His liver is also affected. Is this a cause to worry?
Hi, Welcome to HCM. Dengue is a viral infection caused by mosquito bite. Typical dengue has fever, muscle pain and joint pain with rashes. Chills are very common in this fever. If his platelet count is improving then he is definitely getting better. This extreme weakness is due to body pain which is typical in dengue. Complete recovery will take few weeks. Wishing him a speedy recovery. thanks.
