Diagnosed Hypothyroid, Reduced Synthyroid Dose, Feeling Tired, Headache, Finger Numb. Can I Stop Medication?

Hi, I was just recently diagnosed with Hypothyroid and started on synthyroid 125mcg qd. I started to feel bad tried and was told to cut pill in half. It has been over nine weeks and I have not had lab work repeated. I went to see physician again and asked if this could be causeing me to get headache and left hand pinky and ring finger to go numb and tingle off and on. I was told just to stop taking synthyroid but I am scared to stop without having labs repeated. what should I do?

Hello

NO you should NOT stop taking synthyroid , as you have all the major symptoms of hypothyroidism , like numbness in fingers ( ccarrpel tunnel syndrome ) , tiredness , low mood , weakness , headache , seems your TSH is increasing and may be you need to increase the synthyroid.Tsh test will be the best if you can get it , increase the dose to 150 micrograms , and may be your symptoms will disappear.

Take care
