Diagnosed With ADHD, Bi Polar. Seeing A Psychiatrist And Is On Medication

We have a 37 year old son who lives in Seattle. He is a tech. coder. He was diagnosed with ADHD and Bi Polar last year. He is seeing a psychiatrist and is on medication. He has trouble keeping a job and as parents are not sure if we should help him through the times he is not working. We do not want to be enablers.

Hi and thanks for the query,
It is imperative for you as a family to give him psychological support. Psychiatrists opinion is needed in this case. Medication adherence, considering that most of the time needs long time care. Taking a drug for a long time might require some motivation, and family support could be very useful. In some rare cases. Lack of psychological support might predispose to depression, which could aggravate the clinical scenario due to isolation. I still believe you need to support him. Kind regards
