Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your description. I suggest that most of times, GERD and anxiety are inter related. Hence the breathing problem. Usually antacid should give good relief. In this case, the result could be delayed due to her anxiety.

There are time tested home remedies.
1. Exercising regularly will help digestion and thereby relieve the acidity symptoms.
2. Boiled garlic pieces along with breakfast and dinner should be highly helpful.

Try this for a week and at the mean time tell the anxiety fact to your wife. There should be relief once she becomes aware of it.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
