Diagnosed With GERD. Prescribed Antacids, No Improvement, Breathing Problems. Should Medicine Be Changed?
Hi ! Dr.Goyal ,
My wife aged 44 has been diognosed with GERD after the indoscopy test. She has been prescribed antacids which she is taking for the last three weeks. There is no improvement and four to fiv times a week, she complains of breathing problem.
Kindly suggest if the medicines need to be changed.
Also , is there any medicine for immediate relief ?
I went through your description. I suggest that most of times, GERD and anxiety are inter related. Hence the breathing problem. Usually antacid should give good relief. In this case, the result could be delayed due to her anxiety.
There are time tested home remedies. 1. Exercising regularly will help digestion and thereby relieve the acidity symptoms. 2. Boiled garlic pieces along with breakfast and dinner should be highly helpful.
Try this for a week and at the mean time tell the anxiety fact to your wife. There should be relief once she becomes aware of it.
Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
