Diagnosed With Hashimotos. Having Tingling In Legs, Palpitations While Resting, Anxiety. Are The Symptoms Medical Or Mental?
I have an underactive thyroid which was diagnosed as Hashimotos disease. I have been having alot of sweats and problems with anxiety alot of my life. I am also experiencing a goosebump sensation through my legs and my heart races alot and i have palpitations while resting etc. My doctor told me my hormone and TSH tests are now normal but he suggests maybe i should try a 24hr heart monitor and maybe beta blockers for my anxiety which he suspects may be triggered by an abnormal adrenelin rush. I also experience depression. I am taking Thyroxine 150mg per day and sertraline 50mg per day. I have days where i just want to end it all and this scares me. Is it a mental problem or medical?? I am 38yrs old and female.
Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your discussion in detail and would like to let you know that your sypmtoms can be both due to thyroid as well as psychological. However with your normal TSH levels on 150 mic gm of thyroid supplementation, I think the treatment should focus on psychological issues. I understand that you are on 50 mg of sertraline and that can be easily increased. Propranolol is a good drug in this regard. Also consider adding some cognitive behavioral therapy sessions as well with your psychiatrist. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
