What Causes Heart Palpitations Despite Taking Effexor For Anxiety?
I have anxiety disorder . Recently, anxiety symptoms returned and an increase in dosage of medication (Effexor) a week ago hasn t helped symptoms -- palpitations/fluttering in chest, wanting to take deep breaths, just general anxious feeling. I have an app t with PCP in 2 weeks, but am worried that this could be heart related (or is that part of the anxiety?????)

Anxiety can cause palpitations though other causes can be ruled out.
An ECG and blood tests can be done to rule out other causes.
The ECG would look at the heart rate and rhythm of the heart.
Blood tests would be for complete blood count (to check for anemia) and thyroid disease (to rule hyperthyroidism).

Anxiety can definitely lead to your symptoms and its possible that the present dosage or medication isnt working adequately. It may need a change or may need a hike up of dosage. On the other hand the palpitations could also be a heart ailment, arrhythmias which can be diagnosed only by an ECG and a cardiac opinion is a must. Even high BP can give you the same symptoms so a visit to your physician at the earliest is recommended.
