Diagnosed With MRSA, Taking Nitrofurantoin. Undergone Hip Replacement. Is This The Right Medication? Contagious?
tHANK you. I had a hip replacement done 2 months ago. yesterday i had a call from my doc telling me i was tested positive with MRSA. in my urine.. was prescribed nitrofurantoin mono/mac 100mg q.i.d for 7 days. is this the right and best med to prescribe? is there a soap or shampoing to use too? i have 2 kids and am very concerned. can MRSA affect my eyes too?

MRSA is a common infection especially on orthopedic surgery. Identifying an appropriate antibiotic for it is mandatory. I suggest you get a culture and sensitivity test done. Using drugs with lower sensitivities to this germ could increase further potential risk for resistance and persistent infection. I suggest you seek the opinion of the infectiologist for a culture.
