Diagnosed With Bilateral Pneumonia, Multifocal Infection, Fluids In Lung. What Is The Meaning Of Atelectasis And Atypicals?
I recently was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and they are not sure if : impression Intreval worsening/development of bilateral heterogeneous opacities, worse within the the right middle lobe, possibly atelectasis but worrisome for multifocal infection, including atypicals. and I also have fluid around my lungs: what is atelectasis and atypicals?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Your main query is , Atelectasis as far as concerned about lungs means "a partial or complete collapse of the lung".In this sense the middle lobe of right lung is collapsed and the reason may be pneumococcus bacteria or virus or other pathogen ( causative organism). The main cause of concern are various type of unusual lesions exactly not identified in X ray because of limitation of X ray. Heterogeneous opacities may be due to old lesions ( of tuberculosis ) , may be due to cancer ( however without picture of X ray very difficult to evaluate any diagnosis . So please correlates with clinical findings. Hope I have answered your question. If further any question I will help. Good luck. Dr. HET
