Diagnosed With Blood Cancer, AML With M1 And M2, Has Sugar, Liver Expansion Through Chemo, Advised BMT. Is It Necessary?
Hi Doctor.. My mother aged 56 is diagonised with Blood cancer on 5th of July 2012. It is a AML and it says its between M1 and M2. From 9th July till today everday chemotheraphy is on, also infusing blood & plateletes. From the time of chemo she has add on like sugar, liver expansion. Doctors are planning for BMT in next 1 week. Is it necessary in M1 to M2 stage?
M1 ou M2 are not stages of the disease. They are the subtype of AML with which your mother was diagnosed. She is still a young patient, and this diagnosis carries a bad prognosis, unless there are specific good prognosis markers on her bone marrow. If her doctors decided to undergo bone marrow transplantation, is probably because your mother doesn't have any of those good prognostic factors and because se has a good donor. Having a compatible donor is good news and the fact that she is doing a BMT is a sign that her disease is in clinical remission. I think this is the correct way to proceed. Hope to have answered your query.
