Diagnosed With Colitis. On Steroids. Which Drug Can Help?

My 17 year old son was diagnosed with colitis and has been on steroids for a long time. The medication does not seem to be working and he is still suffering from the symptoms. Is there any drug that he can take that would help?
We live in England and I was wondering if there are more advanced tx in the USA that might help him. We are more than wiling to bring him to the states to see a doctor for his condition.
Thank you

Dear friend,

Thanks for posting your query on this website. I can fully appreciate your concern for your son.

In view of the sketchy details provided, I presume that son was apparently diagnosed as suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease and put on steroids.

In case your son was diagnosed as a case of Ulcerative Colitis, you should start with Tab Mesalamine 2gm/day in two/three divided doses. He is likely to show good response within a month or two.

It would be very helpful to me in reaching to a definite conclusion if you share his investigation reports. Please get the following investigations done, if not done so far :-

Was his colonoscopy done? It's findings?
Was HLA B27 done?
What was his ESR and C-Reactive Protein levels?

I am highly optimistic that you will certainly benefit from the advice
May I assure you that I am always available for your assistance and will try my best to cure your condition to the best of my experience and knowledge.

Awaiting your reply,

Fond Regards,

Dr. Karanwal
