Diagnosed With Concussion After Football Injury. What Are The Actual Symptoms ?
I have a question regarding my football injury concussion . I am a 16 year old football player, and recently have been diagnosed with a concussion , even though My baseline tests for memory , reactions, etc. My trainer at my school knows this, and so does the doctor, who has told me multiple times my symptoms are well irrelevant to a real concussion. The trainer has a 5 step return to play protocol he follows by, and I findit frustrating I have to do these silly workouts and stay away from football when I clearly am showing no post injury symptoms, and I ve never even had a concussion before. What I ve come to ask you is does my personal physician have jurisdiction over a public school hired trainer for my return to play with a written note?

Post-concussion symptoms are common after head injury and are diagnosed by exclusion of other complications following head injury. I suppose the CT scan has already been done in your case.
The most frequent complaints that you may come across are: drowsiness, intellectual impairment, headache, dizziness, visual disturbance and vomiting.
It is actually reduced short term memory and impaired concentration that makes it difficult to resume work. In case your baseline tests for memory, reactions etc are normal as you have said , then you do not have anything much to worry. The anxiety and precautions followed by your trainer is understandable.
Yes your physician can give a written note but at the same time I suggest precautionary measures are always advised from medical point of view ( for a brief period) to prevent any neurological worsening . It is more so in your case as you are a player and prone to such injuries.
