Diagnosed With Hyperthyroidism, Was Smoker. Using Ecig. Can Radio Iodine Treatment Be Taken?
I have been diagnosed with mildto moderate hyperthyroidism/Graves disease. We are blood resting again, and considering treatment options. Radio-iodine treatment is one option (that I'm not too sure about). I quit smoking 5 months ago, and am currently using an ecig, and gradually decreasing my nicotine. My question is: while cigarettes are "dangerous" undergoing radio iodine treatment, is vaping/ ecigs safe? What about the patch? Thanks
Smoking is not advised during any radiotherapy treatment such as radioactive iodine for different reasons. It decreases the effectiveness of the treatment and also increases the risk of side effects.
Some ecigs release nicotine and others just utilised flavoured vapour. If you are using the ecigs that release the flavored vapour, it should be ok but you would not be able to use the version with nicotine.
The same would go for the patch which would also release a small amount of nicotine.
I hope this helps
