Diagnosed With Latent TB. Have Persistent Cough With Yellow/green Sputum. Concerned About Active TB?
I was diagnosed with latent TB almost two years ago while I was pregnant and took isoniazid daily with Vitamin B-6 for 6 months and was given a certificate of treatment completion. Now I have had a persistent hacking cough for approx. 2 weeks. Occasionally producing yellow/green sputum. Also I am a recovering IV drug user. Should I be concerned I now have active TB?
Hi, Thanks for your query. Isoniazide prophylaxis do reduces the chance of active TB but not abolishes it. You must go for a chest xray and sputum for acid fast bacilli examination along with montoux test to have an idea. Yellow green phlegm definitely signifies infection and must be worked up for. You may be needing a course of antibiotic too...meet your doctor for the same....
best wishes
