Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Diagnosed With Left Ventricular Hypertrophy Consistent With Hypertension And Dilated Left Atrium. Explain?
I have left ventricular hypertrophy consistent with hypertension . Dilated left atrium will predispose to atrial fibrillation; Left ventricular systolic function is normal diastolic function may be abnormal based on the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy and dilated left atrium, a diagnosis not necessarily supported by the pattern of mitral valve inflow. Please would you explain in simple English the diagnosis and what should I be doing? Thanks Joan
The ventricle is working against increased pressure. So it becomes thicker to cope up.
The atrium in turn has to work more - to force into the thick ventricle - so it dilates.
The cause should be addressed / if controlled well, the changes may regress.
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors / Angiotensin Receptor Blockers help in re-modelling.
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
