Diagnosed With Open Cervix In 7th Week Of Pregnancy. Pregnancy Test Is Still Positive. Scheduled For USG

Hi, I am 7 weeks pregnant and 2 days ago started spotting. Yesterday, I passed a small blueberry sized clot and the bleeding increased a little. I had some minor cramping as well. I went home and laid down. The cramping subsided and the bleeding has returned to light spotting. I went to the doctor today and was told my cervix is open with a bulge. They did a pregnancy test which indicated that I am still pregnant. They are scheduling me for an ultrasound. I was just wondering if a miscarriage is imminent at this point?

Hello
Thanks for writing to suw tih your health concern.
Yes, going by your history, a miscarriage is imminent.
Your history is highly suggestive of an incomplete abortion.
In this condition, the cervix is open.
Part of the pregnancy tissue gets expelled, as you did experience with the small clot you passed.
Part of it remains inside the cervical canal, causing the bulge mentioned by your doctor.
The pregnancy test would still be positive, because part of the pregnancy is still retained inside.
The ultrasound would confirm this.
You might need a dose of medical abortion pills or straightaway a surgical abortion to clear the remaining tissue.
Take care.

Hi. Yes, it seems miscarriage is imminent. your scan will be done and if cardiac activity present ant pregnancy ok, then you might be advised for a cervical stich.
Usually it is required in 3rd or 4th month of patients with incompetent os.
But you may require it now, your gynecologist will be your best judge and guide.
Thanks.
