Diagnosed With Polycythemia Vera. Does Glucose Levels Of 125 Relate To A1C Level Of 7.1?
I have been diagnosed with polycythemia vera . I was wondering the correlation with A1C test and raised hct and hemoglobin levels (hct 51% and hb 18mg)? Testing with the home meter my glucose levels have averaged about 125 to 130, which does not correlate with a A1C level of 7.1. I ve also read that my Native American heritage has some impact on this test.
YES... in conditions like polycythemia vera there is an increased production of rbc's and thickening of the blood occurs in such cases we cannot get accurate hba1c values. so dont bother much about hba1c but your hemoglobin will increase and hematocrit will increase. doctor has to do phlebotomy or removal blood from you to get the hematocrit to normal. because of removal of blood, the viscosity of your blood will decrase so the further damage like clots formation in the vessels can be prevented.
