Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My girlfriend started having diarrhea yesterday. That has slowed down but she is feeling worse. Now she has been belching and it hurts her until she is able to pass the burp. She still has the runs but has slowed down. Ate a normal meal last night after diarrhea symptoms but only a piece of toast today. Liquids make her burp but am trying to get her to drink water and juice.
Hi, she is having gastro intestinal infection. A mild infection can get settled by itself in a day or two days or if the symptoms continue she has to be started on antbiotics and the course has to be completed. If the episodes of diarrhea are decreasing, no need to be started on antibiotics, but let her continue on Oral rehydration Solution. ORS sachets are available over the counter in pharmacy and mix the proportion correctly as per the instructions on the sachet. Let her drink as much as she can with gaps. Avoid juices, instead let her eat fruits and let her be on simple antacids before each meal like T. pantop 20 mg or Omez 20 mg for 2 days. Consult the nearest physician if the symptoms continue. He will start her on antibiotic. Hope this might help!
