Diarrhea,bad Gas,stress.

Can nerves cause a person to have bad gas/diarrhea? I am a coach and I have been stressing about our successful season thus far. I used to get like this about ten years ago, but I have not had any problems since we won a couple state titles. Am I making up this connection in my head or is there something to this?

Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Yes. Emotional stress can affect the bowels and could cause constipation or diarrhea. If you have these symptoms frequently you may need to be investigated for possible Irritable bowel syndrome as this is mainly due to emotional stress and mood disorders.

Consume a well balanced diet. Drink 1-2 litres of water daily. Get 6-8 hours of refreshing sleep daily. Do Yoga everyday for stress relief. Avoid taking much stress as this can take a toll on your sleep, mood, energy and other body functions.

Wishing good health.

Regards,
