Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Difficulty In Breathing, Sweating Profusely After Doing A Shoulder Shrug In Gym. Reason?
I was doing a shoulder shrug standing up straight holding a straight bar (barbell) with about 300lbs when I felt a muscle (i think) in my back tighten up and suddenly I found it hard to breathe and I couldn t stand up straight. I started sweating profusely and I left the gym immediately. I have pain when trying to stand up straight or bend all the way over and especially when I try and touch my chin to my chest .......the pain has subsided over night but I am still in a lot of pain when trying to stand up straight/bend over fully or trying to touch my chin to my chest.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Since the problem happened during Gym and continued it may be due to musculoskeletal problem or may be due to Cardiovascular. Don't strain much, get done one ECG as early as possible, If any problem then follow your doctor advice and if it is normal then can take analgesic with muscle relaxant with complete rest for 2-4 days. Consult your doctor for further examination and management. Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries. Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards Dr. Lohit
