Difficulty Swallowing. Ultrasound Showed Nodules On Thyroid. Throat Pain, Dry Cough. Need For Concern?
I,m a 65 yr old male. For over a year I have experienced swollowing difficulty and all those tests revealed nothing. Approximately four months ago an ultrasound revealed multiple nodules on thyroid . It was felt best not do anything further and retest in six months. Now, my concern is in the past two months my throat hurts daily and I have developed a dry hacking cough along with noticeable enlargements near Adam s apple. I receive treatment through a local VA clinic. Should I be concerned and see a specialist or do the wait and see approach
did you get your thyroid hormone levels estimated ? in a male elderly patient an enlargement of the thyroid gland must always to be evaluated . I would advice you to repeat your thyroid ultrasound scans as well as your thyroid functions tests and get evaluated by an ENT / Surgeon . you would possibly require a fine needle aspiration cytology of the same . do meet a specialist at the earliest , don't postpone .
I hope this helps .

dr Arun
