Dizziness, Stuffed Feeling In Ears, Problems With Balance. MRI Shows Spot In Brain Stem. Suggestions?
Hi I recently had several weeks of being dizzy, off balance, ears felt like they were stuffed with cotton I thought I was going deaf. Made an appointment with an ENT was tested for Vertigo and Meiners disease, but did not have.ENT Dr. sent me for a MRI The MRI shows spot/something on the brain stem. Can't see the neuro until Sept. any suggestions.
Vertigo can be due to central or peripheral causes. Central causes mean that the problem originates from the brain or spinal cord.
The structures in the brain that are mainly involved in balance are the brainstem and the cerebellum.
The lesion or 'spot' that was seen on the MRI can be due to different possible conditions such as : (1) artefact- this is something that is not actually present within a person but due for example to the machine used or tool (2)a mass within the brainstem- it is possible that it is related to a tumor (3) stroke- this is due to disrupted blood supply to an area of the brain, it would also cause a change in the image (4)infection (5)trauma (6) multiple sclerosis
YOur neurologist would be able to determine, based on physical findings and reviewing the image, what the area represents.
I wish you the best and hope this helps
