Dizziness While Climbing Steps. Taking Medication For BP. Suggestions?
I am 69. I have been taking metoprolol and my blood pressure was 145/80 with pulse ~70. I noticed some dizzyness when climbing stairs. To lower my blood pressure my Dr. gave me lisinopril, first 20 mg, then lowered to 10 mg. My sys blood pressure went down ~130/85 and my pulse went up ~85. The dizziness climbing stairs got worse.
Dear Sir/Madam Thanks for writing to HCmagic. There can be 3 issues. 1. You have a combination of supine hypertension (high Blood Pressure when lying down) and orthostatic hypotension (low BP on standing). A combination more commonly found in elderly. Your doctor can check for same in his clinic and if found, you will have to see a neurologist too. 2. It can be a manifestation of either anginal heart disease/ Low heart pumping. Both these issues will be sorted out by your cardiologist. 3. This can be pure neurological issue related to your balancing system. My advise is too see your physician and get orthostatic hypotension ruled out. Clinical examination at that time will also indicate that to whom you should consult first; a neurologist or a cardiologist. Feel free to discuss further. Sincerely sukhvinder singh
