Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a family history of als. I have muscle spasms, twitches all over and sciatic nerve problems. I have burning in my hips, legs and feet. I also have times of weakness. I have had mris and X-rays but they show no spinal problems. My other family members with als have had sciatic nerve problems. My question is this...does other als patients complain with sciatic nerve problems?

Do ALS Patients Get Sciatic Nerve Problems?
Hello, Sciatica is not a hereditary disease. Sciatica occurs due to mainly, postural habits or wearing of high heels in your footwear. Usually, the L3, L4 & L5 discs get compressed and because of that, the sciatic nerve gets pinched at the roots. I suggest you avoid heavy lifting or bad postural habits. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
