Do Amoxicillin Pills Cause Any Side Effects?

My husband is 43 years old and was diagnosed yesterday with a sinus infection and started on Amoxicilian. He has taken 3 pills (1 every 12 hours) but now he has developed a fever and has a cough and feels much, much worse. Should I be concerned or just let the amoxicillian work? He did not have a fever or cough when he went to doctors, just severe sinus pain and congestion. Will he be ok until tomorrow??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Amoxicillin is commonly prescribed for the treatment of respiratory tract infections like sinusitis caused by susceptible bacteria. Generally it is well tolerated by most of our patients, however it may cause diarrhea, allergic rash, and vomiting. I recommend him a cough syrup and paracetamol tablet for the symptomatic relief of cough and fever. Let him continue to take the antibiotic as prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
