Do Citalopram And Trifluoperazine Help To Treat Bipolar Disorder ?
Can Citalopram and trifluoperazine can they treat bipolar? i need to know cuz my doc said i have bipolar but i want to know if they treat it! plez plez help

Citalopram is an antidepressant-- antidepressants are NOT used for bipolar as they will destabilise the disease course.
Trifluoperazine is an older antipsychotic-- may be used but not FDA approved for bipolar disorder. Moreover, may cause serious side effects if used in long term.
Drugs for bipolar are:
Lithium
Anticonvulsants like divalproex, lamotrigine, carbamazepine IInd gen. antipsychotics like olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone etc.

Bipolar disease is mood disorder. So antidepressants and antimanics/ Antipsychotics or are commonly used medications.
Trifluoperazine is Antipsychotic here used to control mood. However there are safer medication. Some doctors use Trifluoperazine because it is cheaper.
Citalopram is antidepressant and used in combination with other medicines in Bipolar Disease.
