Hello,
Prolonged use of Diclofenac may cause harm to the kidneys.
Colchicine is prescribed to prevent or treat acute gout attacks (flares). Its most common side effects include diarrhea, vomiting,
abdominal pain, and hair loss.
It's unlikely to cause kidney damage. Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly prescribed to relieve inflammatory pain and swelling associated with gouty arthritis,
osteoarthritis or
rheumatoid arthritis.
It's most common side effects include
stomach upset, dyspepsia,
stomach ulcer, bleeding and after heavy or prolonged use, it may cause harm to the kidneys which is dose dependent.
Although a single kidney can function adequately to meet the needs of the body, individuals with one kidney should be extra vigilant when it comes to limiting risk factors for kidney disease.
Many medicines cause toxic effects to the kidneys and therefore should be avoided or used with extreme caution. Medicines to avoid with only one kidney include NSAIDs, antibiotics, and others.
Selective COX-2-inhibitor such as Celecoxib which do not affect the kidney functions may be an alternate effective drug your doctor may prescribe to treat acute gouty arthritis. Other option being
Paracetamol which is an analgesic which usually does not harm the kidneys in therapeutic doses.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
