Do Cortisone Shots Cause Elevated Triglyceride Levels?
On Thursday I had Cortisone injections into my knee and hip. The following Tuesday I had Lipids drawn. My Triglyceride was 800. Very high for me. I am also diabetic. Needless to say my blood sugars have also been elevated. Are the injections the cause of the elevated Triglyceride?

Do Cortisone Shots Cause Elevated Triglyceride Levels?
Hello, Yes, Cortisone shots cause elevated triglyceride levels. Glucocorticoids like Cortisone can increase serum glucose levels by inhibiting the uptake of glucose by muscle cells. Cortisone also stimulates production of triglycerides and fatty acids resulting in elevated triglycerides. However, this is a reversible effect. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
