Do Cortisone Shots Cause Hypothyroidism?

O was just told i have hypothyroidism. Dr. Told me my back injections of cortisone every 3 to 4 months might be my cause. Told me to stop injections for 6 months, retake the test to see if different or go see the endodontist. I chose to see him as I can t stop shots or my back and legs won t be working well. What do y think? Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Repeated steroid shots do produce hypothyroidism by immune-mediated mechanics. So, I do agree with the advice of your consultant and suggest you follow the same for your better outcome.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Purva Patel
