Do Ezetimibe And Statins Cause Low Hemoglobin Levels?

At a recent physical, my hemoglobin registered 9,9. A week later another blood test revealed a reading of 9.0. A year ago, it was 12.8, the year before, 14.2. In May of this year, my cardiologist added an additional drug to the statin I was already taking, Ezetimibe 10MG, and I am wondering if the combination of the two cholesterol drugs isn t affecting my iron.

Hi,

It's good habit to be vigilant about side effects.
Exetimibe and statins have different mechanism of action but anaemia (low iron / Haemoglobin level) is not reported side effects with them. My advice to you is to check for peripheral smear examination along with Vit. B12 level to differentiate between iron deficiency anaemia from Vit. B12 deficient anaemia. Along with it do Complete blood count to check abnormal counts of other blood cells.

Thanks.
