Do Fluoxetine And Clonazepam Interfere With Each Other?

I am trying to help a young man (26) who has recently come to live with me. I am concerned with the medicines he takes. I am wondering if there are any negative results from taking the following medicines together. He takes 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. 2 mg of clonazepam twice a day. Fioricet (50-325) as needed. Also tramadol, which he is currently out of.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Fluoxetine is a SSRI drug and Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine drug. Both drugs are safe to use and are not associated with any serious drug interactions. But as Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine drug so the drug should not be used regularly for long times because of risk of dependence and the drug is also associated with abuse potential. So if possible advise him to take the drug Clonazepam on SOS basis only. Fioricet is an analgesic drug which also consists of butalbital which is a barbiturate. So the drug has dependence potential so this drug is also used on SOS basis only. Tramadol is an opioid drug and I would also advise you to caution for this drug. This drug also have dependence potential and is a controlled drug. These drugs should be used with prescription only.

Thanks, I hope this helps you.
