Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do HCG Diet Drops Cause A False Positive EtG Alcohol Test Result?
I am taking alcohol based hcg drops for the hcg diet. I m an alcoholic and currently doing outpatient treatment with required alcohol etg tests. I m freaking out. Can this show a false positive for etg? It s such a tiny amount, I am praying it will be fine. But I know hand sanitizer can trigger it and under the tongue absorbs really well. I m really scared.
Welcome to HCM, You have every right to be panic stricken. As you have mentioned, even hand sanitizer can throw the etg test off. Medications you would not dream of affecting the etg do. If you were my patient, this is the advice I would give you: The HCG drops do absolutely NOTHING to help you lose weight. Waste of money. Just don't do the drops. The weight loss happens because of the diet that comes with it which is not the best but weight loss does occur.
Reducing portion sizes, giving up sugar/juice/pop, cutting down on fat, and high intensity interval exercise will take that weight off! There are also good reports on using green tea by pill or tea (EGCG) or schedule a consult with myself here on HCM by going to bit.ly/askkathyshattler.
Good luck, Kathryn J. Shattler, BS,MS,RDN-Registered Dietitian Nutritionis Master Nutritionist
