Do I Need To Take Vaccination For Varicella And What Is The Duration Between The Two Doses And How Long Should I Wait To Conceive?

Hi, I am a 31 yrs old woman...planning to conceive....as part of the planning I had a blood test for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella.....report says I am not immune to measles and varicella.....as aresult I was given a MMR vaccine 1st dose 1month before and now its time for the 2nd.I am moving back to INDIA my home country this Feb.I am not sure about the chicken pox exposure in India. 1.Do I also need to take varicella ?If yes then how much min gap should be there between the 2 doses? In that case do I need to take the 2nd dose from the same brand(may be the brand in Canada may not available in India). 2.How long I need to wait after the 2nd dose before I try to conceive. 3.What is the chance to catch chicken pox in India if I dont take the vaccine at all? Thanks in advance. Chhanda I

Hi and welcome to HCM. If u not had chicken pox anytime before then its better to take varicella vaccine, adults should have two shots, with four to eight weeks between the first and second shot (not before four weeks). 2. Its not necessarily the same brand, u can take vaccine from another manufacturer also, but preferably u can come to India and then take both shots in India only. Nonpregnant women who are vaccinated should avoid becoming pregnant for 1 month after each injection of varicella vaccine. Even after MMR vaccination also its recommended to avoid pregnancy for 1 month after vaccination. The chances of contracting chicken pox in little higher and its better if u get vaccinated. If u still have doubt u can consult a pediatrician about this, but i think i answered all your queries. All the best.Regards
