Do I Require A Surgery For My Thyroid?

I went to a endo specialist yesterday, he examined my thyroid and said it was homongeous and he didn't think they could be shrinked. So, he scheduled a needle aspiration for Sept 15, told me not to be scared he needed to do a biopsy of the tissue The thyroid gland is enlarged and heterogenous and nodular in exhotexture the right lobe measures 4.9x22xl.9 cm . The left lobe is enlarged measuring 7.1x6.7x3.7 cm and appears to be replaced by a complex mass measuring 6.7x2.7x3.5 cm. Lsthmus measures 8 mm and contains a 9 mm left inferior complex nodule. Other None. My question: what does that mean I feel sick to my stomach, and do I probably need surgery and is their alternatives for my condition?

Hi,

There is no medicines that can shrink your thyroid nodule if your thyroid function is normal. If you are hypothyroid thyroxine may help.

You need to do surgery if
1. Your FNAC (needle test) is abnormal
2. Thyroid nodule is enlarging and growing inside to the chest cage
3. If you feel difficulty in swallowing or breathing or talking
4. Nodule size >4cm

If you don't have any of these you can repeat the tests after 6 months and make a decision based on that.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
