Do IV Vitamin C Infusions Cause Recurring Fractures In A Cancer Patient?
My dear friend is taking the holistic route to treat her pancreatic cancer, and that includes massive IV vitamin C therapy. Since she s begun the infusions - three times a week - her bones have become brittle and she s suffered two fractures. Before her diagnosis, she was a maniac with her health and had perfect bones. Could the vitamin c be weakening her bones? Leaching calcium from them?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Prakruthi's Response
Hi I don't think the vitamin C injections are the cause of her fractures. Persons with cancer might sometimes have cancer spread to their bones causing what is know as a pathological fracture. Another reason might just be weak bones because of vit D or calcium deficiency. Vitamin C is a good antioxidant and will be beneficial to her. I wish your friend God's blessings and all the strength she needs. Take care :)
